Candle Festival
It takes 30min by car to Soma area from Central Hirosaki. There is a traditional festival which stared from over 400 years ago. It’s called “Sawada Candle Festival” and holds lunar New Year on a night with a full moon. They light candles and look into the harvest of the year, how candle wax runs. The lights of candles make a fantasy atmosphere around there.
Naked Dedication of the Sacred Rope
This festival is an intangible folk-cultural property of Hirosaki. It started over 350 years ago and holds every lunar New Year in Onizawa area. Men go around to Ki Shrine and some others with naked to pray “bountiful harvest” and “family safe and sound”. This is a traditional festival in Onizawa area.
